How does the kit work?

Once the kit is installed, you won’t be able to tell that it didn’t come from the factory that way. It will look and function the exact same as an SE Kodiak or a Grizzly 4wd system. Same push button 4wd switch that mounts on your throttle assembly and the same factory servo that mounts on the front diff.

Will you guys make a kit for the Kodiak 450?

On the Kodiak 450’s, Yamaha went back to the older 5GH diffs like on the older Kodiaks that use the servo with only two positions 2wd and 4wd. This completely different diff from the Grizzlys and Kodiak 700 is what makes this kit difficult to design. A kit that is cost effective and has less parts/fabrication and as easy installation as possible for customers is proving to be difficult. A complete front diff swap would be required to make a kit. A possible driveshaft swap, axle swap and possibly hubs would be required as well. This is more costly and more work that most folks want to do or spend.

With that said, we are looking for customers willing to experiment and help us as two or three minds are definitely better than one. We would of course provide the parts and once the kit was developed, of course those folks would get one free of charge. This could get more involved than most folks want to get into so we completely understand if you don’t want to pull the front diff out of your brand new bike and swap another one in. However, if it is something you are interested in please let us know.

Is the kit hard to install?

If you have basic mechanical skills, you can install this kit with no problems. In a nutshell, you replace the ring gear inside your diff with our locking ring gear. Once this is done, bolt the electronic servo to the front diff and plug the connector on your harness to the servo. Then for the harness to function you have two wires to connect, a positive and negative. The wiring harness is made to fit under the plastic insert under your front rack. You can tap into your ignition wire here for power or connectors are included to connect directly to the battery. Once you get the harness in place, simply bolt the push button switch to your throttle lever assembly and you’re ready to ride!

I have the manual Grabber kit, what would I need and how much would it cost to convert to electric?

For customers that have the manual Grabber kit, conversion will be easy. You will already have the ring carrier installed inside your diff. You will replace your manual puller assembly that is bolted to the diff with three 10mm bolts with an electric servo that will bolt directly in its place.  Next, you’ll remove the cover plate on your throttle assembly and install the push button switch. The harness will go under the front plastic insert and includes everything you need for the 4wd system to function. There are only two wires you need to connect, hot and ground. You can use an accessory wire or any 12 volt wire for power. After that, it’s ready to go!

We are offering this upgrade to our customers at our cost since you already purchased the manual kit.

For brand new OEM servo and OEM push button switch, the cost to upgrade is $380.

For a Rebuilt OEM servo and OEM push button switch, the cost is $250.

Will the Grabber kit work on my EPS model?

Yes, the Grabber will work on both EPS and base models.

Does the Grabber bypass the diff lock limiter?

Since our harness is stand alone, it will bypass your diff limiter. You can go backwards or forwards at any speed you like without restrictions. We recommend you use caution at speeds above 10 mph with diff lock engaged.

Do you offer a warranty on the Grabber kit?

We stand behind all of our products 100% and we guarantee your satisfaction. If any part of your kit fails at any time under normal operating conditions, we will replace that part free of charge.

Do I need any other parts or supplies to install the Grabber kit? 

Unless you save the gear oil that comes out of your diff, you will need to replace the gear oil.  One quart of your favorite 80W 90 gear oil will be plenty. We use Valvoline 80w 90.

Will the factory 4wd light/indicator work with the E-series kit? 

On non-diff lock bikes, you don’t have a diff lock indication. Yamaha didn’t bother because the bike didn’t come with it. The indicator for the 4wd is in the puller assembly that is bolted to the front diff. That entire puller assembly will be removed and replaced with an electronic servo. With the Grabber kit, you will know what mode you are in by seeing the 4wd push button on the handlebars.
